For various reasons, I chose Malaysia as the top news maker in my country. The tortures against Indonesian workers working in M’sia, also against our karate coach, the stealing of our Rasa Sayange song and Reog ponorogo dance are among the reasons to name Malaysia the top news maker.I think even our President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono might not be as popular as Malaysia this year.

- This was a year of definitive mindset change – so, it is apt that C-words rule our choice of Top 10 news issues. Think of that clip, corruption, clean-ups, conversions, courage, crackdowns, crime, conflict, commission, culling, chatterboxes and campaigns … caught on yet?MORE

As I posted a story on the use of Allah for only Muslim in Malaysia -originally from Malaysiakini-, my blog (jakartaku.wordpress.com) secured 12th position in WordPress’ blog of the day. It’s more because of luck as I have not yet posted my original thought about the use of word “Allah”. This success should be attributed to the lively responses to the short posting, not me.

An example of Allah written in simple calligraphic Arabic
Allah ???? (pronounced: Allaah), is traditionally used by Muslims as the Arabic name of God. The word Allah is not specific to Islam; Arab Christians and Jews, and the Catholic Maltese, also use it to refer to the monotheist deity; for example in Arabic translations of the Bible.

As I predicted, Indonesia finally grabbed the fourth position in the 2007 SEA Games after a shaky start. As long as we are not strong in athletics, swimming, gymnastics, boxing, our position at next regional games will remain the same.

Minggu lalu, saya menemani seorang ahli feng shui dari Hong Kong. Ketika jalan-jalan keliling kota, ia yang kebetulan pula sobat karib Mpu Peniti sempat memperlihatkan muka yang sangat kagum.Namun terkadang juga muka yang sangat murung. Tentu saja saya bingung melihatnya. Kebetulan ketika kami berhenti keliling, sembari minum kopi, mendongenglah sang ahli feng shui itu.

What else can we say ? we are just better than Myanmar in SEA Games.
We’re sixth, Myanmar seventh.
But at least Suryo won the fastest man in the region, one of the most prestigious events. Not only that, he broke the Games record to win gold.
